The weekend

You have a weekend; we'll make you a local. From the moment we meet you at the airport to the moment you leave, the days are yours (the lanes of Alfama, the palaces of Sintra, a long lunch by the sea, a night of fado), arranged so that all you have to do is turn up and enjoy it.

Day by day

The shape of the weekend

Day 1

Arrival & Lisbon

We meet you at the airport and bring you into the city, settling you into your hotel before the first wander. The afternoon is a gentle introduction to Lisbon: the medieval lanes of Alfama climbing to the castle, the Sé cathedral, and the great miradouros where the city tumbles in terracotta down to the river. As the light softens, your guide points you toward dinner in a neighbourhood where Lisboetas actually eat: a relaxed first evening to find your feet.

Day 2

Lisbon, Belém & a sunset on the Tagus

A fuller day in the capital. In the morning you explore its heart: the grand squares of the Baixa, the bohemian streets of Bairro Alto and Chiado, and perhaps a ride on the rattling Tram 28. Then you head to Belém, where Portugal's age of discovery is written in stone: the Jerónimos Monastery, the riverside Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries. And the famous custard tarts of Belém, eaten warm. As the day cools, you set sail for sunset on the Tagus: the city turning gold, the great 25 de Abril bridge overhead, a glass in hand and the water glittering all around.

Day 3

Sintra, Cascais & a night of fado

A day to the west, into the green hills of Sintra. You climb to the fairytale Pena Palace, with its domes and riot of colour, then wander the romantic village below before following the road to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, where the cliffs fall away to the Atlantic. The coast carries you home through seaside Cascais and grand Estoril. Back in Lisbon, the evening belongs to fado: a dinner, the show, and the city's beautiful melancholy.

Day 4

Until next time

An unhurried last morning: a final coffee, a last look at the river, perhaps something to take home. When the time comes, a private transfer carries you back to the airport, whenever your flight calls. You leave having lived Lisbon, not merely seen it.

Questions, answered

Is it really only three days?

It's a three-night weekend across four days. We meet you on arrival and see you off on departure, so you get three full days in between.

Can we change the itinerary?

Of course. This is a private, tailor-made weekend, yours to shape. Add an extra night, swap in a day among the medieval towns of Óbidos and Nazaré, trade an afternoon for the vineyards of the Arrábida, or simply slow the whole thing down. Tell us what you'd love and we'll build around it.

What kind of accommodation is it?

A comfortable, well-placed hotel in the heart of the city, with breakfast, for three nights. If you'd prefer something more refined or a particular address, tell us and we'll tailor it to you.

Is the fado evening really included?

Yes: an evening of fado, with dinner and a live performance, is part of the weekend.

Can you arrange this for a family or a larger group?

Yes. Tell us your numbers and we'll tailor the whole weekend, accommodation and all.
